Remembrance & Reflection: Fauré Requiem and Works of William Grant Still

 

Join us Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 3pm, when Masterworks Chorale presents a program of remembrance and reflection. Conductor Kevin Leong has chosen the intimate and angelic Fauré Requiem and works of William Grant Still in an illuminating pairing. Come hear 50 splendid voices honor those lost to the pandemic and celebrate the living, in works of simple, heartfelt beauty.

Kay
Patterson

SOLOIST

Kay Patterson is a soprano performing on both the concert and opera stages. As well as being a recitalist, Kay also has an affinity for contemporary music and has performed many new works by local composers. She has performed with groups such as Connecticut Early Music Festival, Boston Early Music Project, North End Music and Performing Arts Center, Boston Ballet, Opera Providence, Paul Madore Chorale, Cantata Singers, Back Bay Chorale, and Odyssey Opera.

She is also creator and host of the YouTube channel, The Organized Soprano, which produces short films about home organizing, homemaking, and life as a classical singer. Her home organizing advice has appeared in publications and conferences including Better Homes and Gardens, Consumer Reports, Real Simple, The Extra Space Storage Blog, and BuzzFeed. When not offering organizing advice on YouTube, she is entertaining viewers on her video game channel, KayDaisy.

Ms. Patterson has a Bachelor of Music from Boston Conservatory and a Master of Music from Longy School of Music.

Dana
Whiteside

SOLOIST

Baritone Dana Whiteside has crafted a life in music that encompasses performance as a soloist and ensemble member as well as on the stage. He has appeared as a soloist in varied oratorio/orchestral performances, including Beethoven’s Missa solemnis and Ninth Symphony; J. S. Bach’s St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion, and Mass in B Minor; as well as the Boston premiere of John Harbison’s Supper at Emmaus. Roles in works for stage have included Time in the Boston premiere of John Harbison’s Winter’s Tale with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project; the Speaker in The Magic Flute with Boston Baroque; and, with Emmanuel Music, the role of Carl Magnus in Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music.

Educated at Holy Cross College, the Longy School of Music, New England Conservatory, and the Tanglewood Music Center, Mr. Whiteside is an avid recitalist and has appeared with Musicians of the Old Post Road and the Florestan Recital Project as well as in programs at the French Library and the University of Oregon. He enjoys affiliation with the Handel & Haydn Society, Cantata Singers, and Boston Baroque. He is also a member of the Grammy-nominated Skylark Vocal Ensemble and is a featured soloist on the group’s recent albums Winter’s Night, Seven Words from the Cross, and It’s a Long Way.

Mr. Whiteside belongs to Beyond Artists, a coalition of artists whose members donate a portion of their concert fee to organizations they care about. With his performances, he supports Bay Cove Human Services, which provides mental health/addiction/recovery support, and the Women’s Lunch Place, which supports the dignity of women.
